Stepping Stones Forest

We were delighted to welcome Stepping Stones Forest volunteers to Scoil Aoife. They worked with the children to prepare the ground using cardboard and Mulch in the winter. The returned in the spring and together we planted 2,000 trees, using over 20 varieties of native species.

A Stepping Stone Forest is a small, urban, densely planted woodland using native species of trees and shrubs. Due to the dense nature of the planting the trees and shrubs grow very rapidly. Stepping Stone Forests are inspired by a planting method first pioneered by world renowned botanist Prof. Akira Miyawaki.

Stepping Stones returned to our school in June 2025 to put a pond in our grounds. It has already begun to attract a lot of different insects and wildlife!’
